We’ve only “crossed the line” once in the Yankees fan interference drama

Yankees fan Austin Capobianco opened up about his night of shame in an interview with Barstool Sports on Wednesday night, saying this was a second year in the making.

Capobianco was ruled out of Game 5 of the World Series after making a cartoonish attempt to interfere with Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts on a pop-out in foul territory on Tuesday night.

Capobianco said his friend, who grew up in Connecticut and now lives in Nashville, came to see him before the game and they always had an agreement to engage an opponent if a big moment opportunity presented itself.

Capobianco said he has season tickets for those front row seats on the right field line and has been to every home playoff game since 2011.

“We talked about it. When we’re on the field, we make sure our fans aren’t stupid and cause interference (it costs the Yankees an out if they’re on the field),” Capobianco said during the “Barstool Rundown.”

“In that situation, ideally we would have hit the ball while it was in the air; we don’t reach into the playing field. If it came down to it, we would have, but the ball was on the wall. It was actually in my mouth, and I said, ‘There’s nothing I can’t do right now.’

He explained his logic for trying to pull the ball out of Betts’ glove.

“It was pretty safe. As soon as you put your hand on the glove, you will be booted anyway. So I might as well rip the thing out,” Capobianco said.

“The best was when (my friend) just grabbed the arm. It was fucking hilarious in the video.

Ultimately, Capobianco acknowledged that his friend “crossed the line” by grabbing Betts by the arm.

Capobianco emphasized that “no racial slurs” were said to Betts during the incident.

The Bombers fan said he was familiar with Yankees security because “farmer(s)” sitting behind him often complained about him standing up and cheering in front of them during the games.

Capobianco went to Billy’s near Yankee Stadium after the eviction and said he spent the rest of the night “slamming drinks.”

The Yankees announced Wednesday that Capobianco’s tickets had been redistributed to a childhood cancer patient and his family.
