A rowdy crowd took to the streets of Los Angeles after the Dodgers won the World Series, setting fire to a bus, breaking into stores and setting off fireworks. On Thursday morning, the police reported a dozen arrests.

Video showed people throwing objects at police in Los Angeles as sirens blared and officers told them to leave the area after the Dodgers defeated the Yankees in Game 5 in New York. It showed partygoers standing atop a bus waving a Dodgers banner and people running from a boarded-up Nike store with armfuls of sneakers before tossing the merchandise into cars parked outside.

“As we celebrate this achievement tonight and in the days ahead, violence will not be tolerated,” Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said in a statement. The mayor said Los Angeles police will be on high alert all week to protect communities and businesses in the city, which was the site of previous unrest following championship victories by both the Lakers and Dodgers.

There were some “unruly and at times violent and hostile celebrations,” with several acts of vandalism including the torching of a Metropolitan Transit Authority bus, police said. Arrests were made on charges including failure to distribute, receiving stolen property or commercial burglary.

“Metro is disappointed and angered by the senseless act of vandalism on one of our buses following the Dodgers World Series victory earlier this evening,” the transit authority said in a statement to the Los Angeles Times.

“Less-lethal munitions were deployed for crowd control against several hostile and violent crowds,” an LAPD spokesperson said. “Detectives will be conducting investigations in the coming days to try and identify those responsible for the above crimes.”

The Dodgers plan to commemorate their World Series championship Friday with a downtown parade followed by a celebration at Dodger Stadium. The team said Wednesday that fans will not be able to attend both events due to logistics, traffic and timing.
