Concord Monitor – Letter: I was a Republican. This is why I’m voting for Maggie Goodlander

I’m a lifelong Republican, but I’m voting for Maggie Goodlander for Congress. Like many Republicans and independents across the state, I am disappointed with my party’s nominee for Congress in the 2nd District. Lily Tang Williams’ victory over sensible Conservatives showed that my party has abandoned me. After much consideration, I was officially declared black. It wasn’t an easy decision. Lily is a member of the Free State Project: a fringe political movement that is out of step with New Hampshire values. She has a record of ambition without dedication. Before moving to NH, Williams ran for U.S. Senate in Colorado. Now she is making her second conference run in NH.

Maggie Goodlander, on the other hand, is dedicated to service. Born and raised in Nashua, Maggie served for more than a decade as an intelligence officer in the Navy and as an aide to the late Senator John McCain, working across the aisle for the good of the nation. I recently attended her event and she spoke about uniting around common goals, regardless of party. Her focus on collaboration is exactly what NH needs. I don’t agree with Maggie on all policy issues, but in today’s politics we must put aside divisions and vote for depth of character and commitment to service. As Granite Staters and as Americans, the choice before us this fall could not be clearer. That’s why I join the chorus of voices supporting Maggie on November 5.
