Key Rockets, Jalen Green, Alperen Sengun takeaways so far

Through four games, Jalen Green plays like a potential All-Star, while Alperen Sengun lags behind. Today’s Locked on Rockets explores Houston’s 2-2 start.

Featuring recognized media members Jackson Gatlin and Ben DuBose as hosts, Tuesday’s podcast episode of Locked on Rockets will feature analysis of Houston’s first four games of the 2024-2025 NBA regular season.

The Rockets are 2-2, although they currently rank in the top 10 in both offensive and defensive net rating. A big reason is fourth-year shooting guard Jalen Green, who averages nearly 29 points per game due to his strong efficiency while providing a capable wing defense.

But despite these strengths, the Rockets still lost two of four games – and both to opponents (Charlotte and San Antonio) that lost at least 60 games last season.

Houston was outscored by double digits in the second half of both games, a staggering discrepancy for a team expected to be among the NBA’s best rebounding teams to start the season.

Another reason for Houston’s inconsistency is an uneven start from big man Alperen Sengun, who is shooting just 38.5% overall in four games.

With that in mind, the podcast episode (which can be viewed in its entirety above on YouTube) explores both the positives and negatives of Houston’s shows thus far. The show also previews key storylines for Thursday’s game at Dallas (2-1), which kicks off at 7:30 PM Central.

That game in Dallas concludes a three-game Western Conference road trip for the Rockets, who will then tackle a three-game homestand against Golden State (Saturday, Nov. 2), New York (Monday, Nov. 4) and San Antonio (Wednesday November 6).
