Penn State students call for boycott of Fox Sports Show during kickoff

The Penn State faithful are calling for an overhaul to the Big Ten regular season schedule.

Under most circumstances, the highly anticipated clash between the No. 3 ranked Nittany Lions and No. 4 Ohio State would get the iconic whiteout treatment on Saturday during a night game at Beaver Stadium. But because the Fox Sports show Big afternoon kick-off airing from Happy Valley this week, the game kicks off at noon ET instead of being under the lights in a prime-time slot.

Penn State fans are not happy.

“If one thing is clear, it’s this: This game should be a night game,” sophomore Ben Rosenbaum wrote for Onward State, a Penn State blog run by students. “…Fox has enjoyed taking the fun out of tailgating and the atmosphere that Beaver Stadium provides by testing us for several afternoon games. And now, during the biggest game of the year, it’s happening again. Unacceptable.

“I ask you, Penn State students, to please boycott Big Noon Kickoff. Don’t show up. Imagine Urban Meyer whipping up the “crowd.” Let the crickets chirp, folks.

According to The Athleticsthe Penn State-Ohio State tilt was selected with Fox Sports’ No. 5 pick in its annual network draft of college football games with CBS and NBC. It was announced earlier this month as an afternoon kickoff.

Saturday will be a busy day on Penn State’s campus, just like ESPN’s College Game Day will also take place in Happy Valley. It will be interesting to see if College GameDaywhich starts at 9 a.m. ET will attract a larger crowd of Nittany Lions fans than Big afternoon kick-offwhich goes on the air an hour later.
