The Rockford community stands up for women’s rights

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – With just three days until the presidential election, tens of thousands of women across the country, including in Rockford, are coming together to rally for women’s rights. This is part of the national women’s march.

People across Winnebago County and the nation will vote on issues like inflation and border policy. For hundreds of people in Rockford, one issue they will vote on in the upcoming election is women’s rights.

Hundreds of community members spread the “We Won’t Go Back” message at the rally in Rockford. Women’s March Rockford and Winnebago County Citizens for Choice urged residents to vote on the policy, not the person.

“We want to empower people to raise their voices and make sure our candidates are moving us in the right direction,” said local board member Megan Brechon.

The event coincided with “Get Out the Vote” efforts across the country.

“Certainly, the right to choose, a woman’s right to choose, her reproductive health and freedom are on the ballot based on the candidate you vote for, and that is important and important to us,” Brechon explains .

They say candidates who reflect your beliefs are important. Jan Klaas of Winnebago County Republicans agrees, but believes fear mongering is a problem this election.

“I believe the two candidates have completely different policies. People are a very divided country at the moment, because people have very different world views,” says Klaas.

Klaas believes that everyone wants the same thing, but has to ask himself the question: who will get us there?

“It should be a state decision. If the women don’t like the laws in their state, they can try to change those laws and that’s the way it should be done,” Klaas explains.

Dozens more will take place across the country on Sunday, including in Appleton, Wisconsin.
