Trump is ahead of Harris; Polls close in Nevada; Results for Congress Introduction

Former President Donald Trump appears to be in a good position to return to the White House, although as of 10 p.m. Eastern, all seven swing states were still too close to call.

With 82% of the votes counted in Georgia, Trump led Vice President Kamala Harris 51.9% to 47.4%, according to the Associated Press. He also led in North Carolina by 5.9 percentage points, with 72% of the vote.

Harris, as expected, won against Trump in some well-educated suburban counties, but not nearly as many as needed to overcome shifts to the right in rural areas. Florida, which was considered a swing state as recently as 2016, went to Trump by a margin of 13.5 percentage points, with 96% of the votes counted, according to the AP.

Dow futures rose more than 500 points, while 10-year Treasury yields rose 0.13 percentage points in aftermarket trading. The dollar climbed, while Bitcoin rose more than 9.5% to a new all-time high of around $75,000.
