Rapper Fatman Scoop suffers medical emergency and collapses on stage

Fatman Scoop was taken to hospital after fainting during a concert.

The rapper, whose real name is Isaac Freeman III, collapsed onstage during a performance at Town Center Park in Hamden, Connecticut, on Friday, August 30, Mayor Lauren Garrett confirmed in a Facebook post.

“Tonight, while performing at Hamden Town Center Park, Isaac Freeman, aka Fatman Scoop, suffered a medical emergency on stage,” Garrett wrote of the 53-year-old artist. “He is being taken to the hospital by ambulance. We will provide updates as they become available. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.”

Authorities were called to a medical emergency at 8:33 p.m., TMZ reported on Aug. 30. Hamden police did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for more information.

In footage of the incident posted on X (formerly Twitter), Freeman appeared shirtless as he walked from the front of the stage to the back, where an elevated DJ booth was located. He stepped onto the booth and said into a microphone, “I said, Hamden, make some noise!”

The rapper was then standing next to the DJ as he leaned forward on the booth. “Really low,” Freeman continued. “If you’re coming to party… make some noise…” He then leaned on his side and collided with the DJ, who fell to the ground behind the booth.

Footage from the concert shared by TMZ shows doctors in reflective vests giving Freeman chest compressions as he lay motionless behind the concert booth as concertgoers looked on.

In the clip, a concertgoer was also heard saying, “They’re doing CPR.”

Towards the end of the clip, another concertgoer filmed as more people attended to Freeman as they appeared to remove him from the stage, ostensibly to be taken to hospital. “Oh my god,” the person filming was heard saying.
