Within moments of Trump regaining the presidency yesterday, activity on fringe platforms included hateful and violent rhetoric in support of Trump, including calls for mass executions. The violent and hate-filled messages came from several organized far-right, white supremacist and neo-Nazi groups, who are now emboldened to spread hate and violent rhetoric with the promise of Trump’s return to power.

One of the most vocal groups after the election was white supremacists Proud boyswhose leader and members helped orchestrate the insurrection of January 6, 2021. Several chapters posted messages celebrating Trump’s victory, signaling their willingness to take action on his behalf. Both the Villain City Proud Boys and the Toledo proud boys are invoking the “stand back and stand by” slogan Trump made famous during a 2020 presidential debate to signal their willingness to mobilize at his command. The proud boys of Toledo announced they were “ready to help President Trump,” while the Villain City Proud Boys posted an image of Trump wearing a gold and black hat (Proud Boy colors) and a gold tie with the words ‘STAND BY’.

The reports also spewed vile misogyny against Kamala Harris. One account affiliated with the Proud Boys referred to Harris as a “cackling hyena bastard, playing the race card where” it “has been denied.” The message was followed by a greeting: “Hail Trump,” reminiscent of the way the Nazis addressed Hitler.

After the election results, which they were satisfied did not go in favor of a female candidate, the Proud boys of Columbus announced that “now the real work begins” to “undo the damage the Biden/Harris administration has done.” Different Proud Boys chapters aimed to manifest this “real thing” in different ways. Some endorsed the Heritage Foundation’s Christian Nationalist Project 2025 agenda. For example, Proud Boys Ohio declared that “project 2025 was real!” And called to “LEAVE THE PROJECT 2025 HANDMAIDS TALE RAPE SQUADS.” Others called on Trump to do what he promised and pardon those convicted of offenses on Jan. 6, including much of the Proud Boys leadership. The Bluegrass Proud Boys demanded“PARDON EVERY SIXTH OF JANUARY, NO EXCEPTIONS.” This feeling was echoed Through several other Proud Boys chapters.

And there were calls for violence. Proud Boys Ohio posted two posts with photos of newly elected Vice President J.D. Vance looking at the camera with the caption:we’re going to fucking kill you“And”we’re going to kill you.” The Proud Boys made sure it was clear who their threat was aimed at, saying, “The message is to libtards, you damn shit-for-brains.” “Libtard” is a derogatory term often used by the far right to describe liberals or anyone on the political left. A number of follow-up threats, such as “RIP fa***ts,” combined with the use of terms like “rape squads,” serve as a troubling indicator of the targeting of marginalized groups such as the LGBTQ+ community and women, who the Proud Boys feel are seemingly encouraged to threaten in a more explicit way.
