Social media posts encouraging looting in Philly are prompting an increased police presence

An increased police presence was imposed in Philadelphia on Wednesday evening after police said posts were circulating on social media encouraging looting in the city.

Philadelphia Police Department officials posted on social media that they were aware of messages encouraging people to loot businesses and were preparing to crack down on criminal behavior.

A heavy police presence was noticed in the 52nd Street corridor, in West Philly.

The police rode both bicycles and patrol cars.

FOX 29’s Steve Keeley captured video of the preparation in the city amid police-confirmed social media reports of looting.

Some businesses on Walnut and Chestnut streets in Center City shuttered their stores and closed early.

According to police, there have been no reports of looting.
