Aldi recalls popular cheese due to possible Listeria contamination

Savencia Cheese USA has issued a recall for its soft-ripened cheese because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The recalled products include Brie and Camembert cheeses sold at multiple retailers, including Aldi and Market Basket.

The Listeria organism was found at the Lena, Illinois, plant on processing equipment, so only select cheeses made at that plant are being recalled.

The recalled Savencia Cheese Brie and Camembert cheeses were distributed to select regional stores in the U.S. and retailers that sold the cheese are now removing them from shelves. You can recognize the recalled cheese by its UPC number and expiration date. The recalled cheeses include:

  • Emporium Selection Brie: Best before date 24-12-2024 | GTIN: 10041498111325 | UPC-A: 004149811132 | UPC-B: 041498111328

While the Listeria organism was found in the processing plant, tests have not shown any contamination on the cheese itself. Savencia Cheese is issuing the recall out of an abundance of caution.

If you have the recalled cheese, do not consume it. Instead, throw it away or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
