Area prescribed burns, stagnant inversion layer causes ‘unhealthy’ skies | Local news

A combination of prescribed burns in the area and a stagnant inversion layer are causing hazy skies in the Reno-Sparks area.

At the time of writing this article, air quality is now in the “unhealthy” range in Reno. The air quality near the actual burns is currently unhealthy for sensitive groups.

CAL FIRE is conducting controlled burns in the Waddle Ranch area of Placer County, near the Truckee Tahoe Airport, scheduled to last until possibly Saturday.

Highs will be in the lower to mid 50s with plenty of sunshine. The wind will also be weak.

Friday will be a fantastic day with highs closer to average around 60 degrees. There is high pressure.

Our next storm will arrive on Monday.
