A raccoon was captured on video Monday falling from the ceiling at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, leaving trapped travelers gasping and screaming

A New York raccoon must have been late for its flight.

Video shows a raccoon falling from the ceiling near the Spirit Airlines check-in area and running through the security line at New York’s LaGuardia Airport Monday morning.

The incident happened around 8 a.m. in Terminal A, the airport told USA TODAY in a statement.

The animal was captured and released outside the airport, and as of Wednesday afternoon there were no further sightings. No injuries were reported and the airport said it was working with a professional animal control company to investigate possible entry points.

Are raccoons dangerous to humans?

Raccoons are generally defensive in nature, but have sharp claws and teeth that can be dangerous.

Raccoons can transmit diseases including rabies and roundworm. If a person is attacked by a raccoon, he should be checked for rabies.
