Star runs back Christian McCaffrey had just 13 carries for 39 yards in his first game of the season and his return from Achilles tendonitis, but did most of his damage in the passing game. He hauled in six catches for 68 yards, including one that led to a crucial fourth-quarter touchdown drive. George Kittle, Deebo Samuel and Jauan Jennings also had key contributions, as did rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall with his first career touchdown catch, giving Brock Purdy 353 passing yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.

At the other end, a valiant effort by Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers – including a stunningly athletic play in which Mayfield stiff-armed Nick Bosa to keep a field goal alive – fell just short.
