Does Dolphins WR play against Rams tonight?

play

The Miami Dolphins have been playing like fish to water all season. As they prepare for a Week 10 matchup on “Monday Night Football” against the Los Angeles Rams, the Phins may find themselves battling a key member of their group.

Tyreek Hill’s status was anything but clear heading into Monday night, and no one can give a definitive answer. That will officially be around 6:45 PM ET, when inactive reports are due. In the meantime, however, there are speculations about the receiver’s wrist injury.

Miami enters Week 10 with a 2-6 record, good enough for last place in the AFC East. Barring a miracle, their playoff hopes are gone. That is an important factor in the decision about Hill. Once teams come to terms with a lost season, they typically err on the side of caution with next year in mind.

While that may or may not be the case with Hill, Miami needs to protect their star player going forward. For a team that has been battered all season, these Dolphins have some business decisions to make. Here’s the latest on Hill before Monday night’s kickoff in Los Angeles.

Tyreek Hill injury update

Tyreek Hill is officially active, according to ESPN’s Lisa Salters. Hill told Salters that he has a torn ligament in his wrist but will play through it. The receiver tested the pulse during pre-game warmups, which went well. Miami will have their speedster as they try to hang on to their slim playoff chances.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter broke some promising news about Hill’s status on “The Pat McAfee Show” earlier Monday. Schefter said he heard it sounded promising that the receiver would play. He later added that he thinks Hill will be a good fit.

Things can of course change quickly with injuries. Hill has been plagued by a wrist injury since training camp. Despite a few points on the injury report, he has not missed a game yet. However, the alarms started sounding heading into Week 10, when Hill was listed as DNP on Friday and Saturday before being tagged as questionable.

He has since been considered a mid-game decision, with head coach Mike McDaniel telling reporters Saturday that the wrist on Hill was “heating up” and the team wanted to “let him cool down.”

Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, did not rule out surgery but said that decision will be kept internal. Whether Monday night’s result changes the outlook one way or another remains to be seen.

Dolphins WR depth chart

Miami’s depth has been tested all season and it is no different at receiver. With Braxton Berrios and more on IR, losing Hill would put even more pressure on an already floundering unit. Here’s a look at how that probably breaks down:

Waddle would take over the WR1 spot, but it would take a community effort. Beckham Jr. is the player most likely to get these extra targets, but Miami activated Cracraft via IR on Monday, providing some extra insurance. The reality, however, is that Miami will likely look elsewhere if Hill is sidelined. McDaniel’s offense will likely turn to tight end Jonnu Smith and the running back room to make up for missing production in the passing game.
