PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Verizon customers reported widespread internet outages Monday into Tuesday in the Philadelphia area and much of the Mid-Atlantic region, as far away as Washington, DC.

According to DownDetector, more than 10,000 people reported a problem in the Philadelphia area alone.

The first messages came in after midnight on Tuesday about the FiOS internet service.

Complaints began to subside at 3:45 a.m., with few to no reports after 4:00 a.m.

“A network issue early this morning disrupted service for some Verizon Fios customers in the Northeast for a brief period. Once the issue was identified, our technical teams quickly restored service,” Verizon said in a statement to Action News.

There is a short message on the company’s website admitting that there is a problem in the Philadelphia area and that they are working on a solution.
