Could a new primary school be coming to the Stead area soon?

The Washoe County School District Board of Trustees will decide on an additional $8.1 million for the construction of a new elementary school in the Silver Dollar Development area of Stead at their Tuesday meeting.

The decision follows a recommendation from the Capital Funding Protection Committee, which met on October 31, 2024.

Tami Zimmerman, the district’s Chief Facilities Management Officer, presented the proposal as part of the 2024/2025 ‘C’ Major Projects Program. Funding will come from Fund 94 2024B Extended Bond Rollover.

The new school will be a location-adapted building, based on a previously designed prototype. Similar designs have been used for Nick Poulakidas Elementary School, John C. Bohach Elementary School, Michael Inskeep Elementary School and JWood Raw Elementary School.

The board previously approved $52,300,000 for the construction phase of the Stead area primary school as part of the 2024/2025 ‘A’ Major Projects Program on August 13, 2024. In addition, architectural services agreements with H+ were signed earlier this year K Architects approved. , totaling over $3 million.

The project aligns with Goal 3, Safety and Connectedness, of the Washoe County School District Strategic Plan. If awarded by the Board of Directors at Tuesday’s meeting, this project is expected to be completed by May 1, 2026.

According to documents for Tuesday’s meeting, four bids were received and Clark/Sullivan Construction was deemed the lowest responsive and responsible bidder, meeting bid specifications. The apparently low bidder was deemed not to respond because he had not submitted a signed bid form, which is a requirement for submitting a bid.

This item aligns with Pillar D of the district’s “Culture of Excellence and Accountability” strategic plan because it supports a learning community built on collective responsibility, efficiency, and data-driven improvement to create optimized systems for teaching, learning, and leadership to guarantee.

According to the district, construction of the new elementary school in the Stead area will utilize Fund 94 (2024B Extended Bond Rollover) totaling $54,254,370. The project involves the construction of a two-story, 88,000-square-foot Type II-B elementary school at 926 Cloudburst Drive, Reno, NV 89506. It includes site work, grading, paving, landscaping and various other construction elements .

Clark/Sullivan Construction has completed numerous projects for the district over the years. They recently received Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) 1 at the E. Otis Vaughn Middle School Replacement Project.

To provide students with a safe learning environment, the district does not believe there is an alternative solution to continue this improvement.

Tuesday’s meeting starts at 2 p.m. at the district’s headquarters on E. 9th St. If you can’t make it, the meetings will be streamed on their YouTube page.
