Katie Taylor defeated Amanda Serrano in a controversial decision

ARLINGTON, Texas – Katie Taylor retained her undisputed women’s lightweight championship with a controversial and unpopular unanimous decision over Amanda Serrano on Friday night at AT&T Stadium.

The fight was a return match from their stunning 2022 meeting headlined at Madison Square Garden, which Taylor won via narrow split decision. It was the first time two women headlined the historic arena.

Friday night’s rematch served as the main support for Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson and ended in a decision more controversial than their first meeting. All three judges scored it for Taylor with scores of 95-94.

Serrano (47-3-1, 31 KOs) suffered a grotesque cut to her right eye due to an accidental clash of heads in round four. Taylor (24-1, 6 KOs) was deducted a point in round 8 when the cut opened wider, drawing audible groans from the thousands in the crowd.

The two women engaged in another exciting battle with a high-octane offensive attack. Serrano looked the stronger of the two early on as she marched Taylor down and hit her head and body with hooks and punches. Taylor fought her way back into the fight and tried to hold her position, resulting in numerous headaches.

But it seemed like Serrano was the stronger and more active fighter. According to Compubox, she defeated Taylor 324-217.

With the series now in Taylor’s favor at 2-0, the controversial nature of both wins could still warrant a third fight.
