Footage resurfaces of Stipe Miocic’s ‘kid’ comment that angered Jon Jones ahead of UFC 309

Old footage of Stipe Miocic’s appearance on a prominent podcast answered questions about Jon Jones’ claims that Miocic called Jones’ children to trash talk before the fight.

Jon Jones accused Stipe Miocic of mentioning his children in an interview segment ahead of UFC 309. Social media sleuths have solved the mystery behind the allegations and provided some clarity as to what Jones was referring to.

Jones claimed during his press conference at UFC 309 media day that Miocic responded to a question about his legacy by saying, “At least my kids won’t look at me like an asshole.” Jones interpreted this as Miocic taking an indirect shot at him due to his questionable history outside the Octagon.

When Jones and Miocic came face to face at the UFC 309 pre-fight press conference, Jones told Miocic to his face, “Don’t ever say that about my kids again”. After avoiding Miocic’s handshake attempt during their confrontation, Jones shook Miocic’s hand during Friday’s ceremonial weigh-in in what many saw as a sign of forgiveness.

Many fans, pundits and fighters questioned Jones’ allegations that Miocic assaulted him and his children prior to UFC 309. It didn’t take long for web sleuths to investigate Jones’ claims.

Resurfaced clip shows Stipe Miocic did not attack Jon Jones or his children

The MMA community found a recent performance by Miocic on Quinton “Rampage” Jackson’s JAXXON Podcast, in which it appears that the entire controversy was a misunderstanding on Jones’ part.

Miocic was asked if he feels he should get credit for what he has accomplished in his UFC career.

“I guess the more the better, you get paid more,” Miocic said. “If I talk a little more nonsense, act a little crazier, but that’s not who I am. I am a full-time firefighter, have two children and try to raise my children well. I don’t want my kids to grow up saying, ‘Look at my dad, he’s fucking.’ Being a dumba**.

“It would be great (if I got the honor), but I’m not worried about it.”

Miocic was not specifically referring to Jones in the comments above, as he tried to explain to Jones during their UFC 309 press conference.

Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic is carrying some extra heat after the fight week controversy

Jones and Miocic are undoubtedly two of the greatest UFC fighters to ever make the walk to the Octagon. Both fighters are considered all-time greats, with Miocic considered by many to be the heavyweight MMA GOAT.

Jones returns to the Octagon for the first time since capturing the then-vacant heavyweight title against Ciryl Gane at UFC 285. Meanwhile, Miocic will make his first appearance since a knockout loss to Francis Ngannou at UFC 260.

Jones has had bad blood with only a handful of opponents during his storied career. His famous rivalry with Daniel Cormier helped fuel MMA and the UFC’s popularity after their two instant classic fights.

Hours before perhaps the biggest heavyweight fight in UFC history, Jones and Miocic’s pre-fight controversy may be put to bed. But the animosity built up during fight week could lead to another viral finish for both behemoths.
