Big 12 football predictions through the 2024 season

Houston, Arizona

  • Friday November 15
  • Kickoff: 8:15 PM (MST)
  • Television: FS1

Insider predictions

  • Steve Bartle: Arizona
  • Mitch Harper: Houston

The only team that can match Utah in terms of injuries and upsets is Arizona. They’ve had more than enough problems. Meanwhile, Houston has found life with wins over Utah and Kansas State in recent weeks. Going on the road to get a win over the Wildcats will prove to be too difficult a task for this squad. -Bartel

Arizona has been playing poorly since their September win at Utah. Houston’s comeback win over Kansas State was impressive. QB Zeon Chriss changed everything for this team. He was a perfect 11/11 for 103 and 75 rushing yards two weeks ago. Give me the Coogs. -Harper

Utah at number 17 Colorado

  • Saturday November 16th
  • Kickoff: 10:00 AM (MST)
  • Television: FOX

Insider predictions

  • Steve Bartle: Colorado
  • Mitch Harper: Colorado

As much as I want to see a win, especially because the players deserve to take a break. I think the hangover effect is real. That rivalry game is taking its toll. This is a tough turnaround for Utah. Colorado plays really good football. They have two of the best players in the country and a Heisman contender. -Bartel

Utah’s quarterback situation, combined with its losing streak, makes it hard for me to imagine Utah being competitive in this game. The Buffs are real. Do you believe? I do. It’s prime time in Boulder. -Harper

Baylor in West Virginia

  • Saturday November 16th
  • Kickoff: 2:00 PM (MST)
  • Television: ESPN2

Insider predictions

  • Steve Bartle: Baylor
  • Mitch Harper: Baylor

Baylor is coming off the bye week on a three-game win streak. Quarterback Sawyer Robertson has really turned a corner for the Bears and played some good ball. West Virginia got swept by the Bearcats last week, the Bears getting the win in this one. -Bartel

Baylor is currently playing at a high level. In recent weeks they have been one of the best teams in the league. West Virginia’s record reflects the tough schedule they have played this season. This is a good matchup on the Week 12 slate. The Bears keep the hot streak going and become bowl eligible. -Harper

The state of Arizona is number 16 in the state of Kansas

  • Saturday November 16th
  • Kickoff: 5:00 PM (MST)
  • TV: ESPN

Insider predictions

  • Steve Bartle: Kansas State
  • Mitch Harper: Kansas State

After a bye week, Kansas State should get the win. That extra time to prepare is super important for Avery Johnson. Cam Skatteboo could make a difference here, but the Wildcats are too much. -Bartel

If ASU wins this game and BYU beats Kansas, can we watch College Gameday in Tempe next week? The state of Indiana/Ohio would have a strong argument against that. The biggest opponent to that idea, however, will be K-State. The Wildcats take care of business in what appears to be a rare home game for them this season. -Harper

Cincinnati, Iowa

  • Saturday November 16th
  • Kickoff: 6:00 PM (MST)
  • Television: FOX

Insider predictions

  • Steve Bartle: Iowa State
  • Mitch Harper: Iowa State

The Cycles have been struggling though, I think they righted the ship this week against the Bearcats. Injuries appear to be on the rise for Iowa State, but Rocco Becht has a big matchup against the Bearcats’ porous pass coverage. -Bartel

I can’t get a good picture of Cincinnati. Despite the two-game skid, I still love this Iowa State team. I don’t see Cincinnati going for 532 yards of offense like Kansas did to the Cyclones a week ago. But if they do, the season could quickly plummet for Iowa State. -Harper

Kansas at No. 6 BYU

  • Saturday November 16th
  • Kickoff: 8:15 PM (MST)
  • TV: ESPN

Insider predictions

  • Steve Bartle: Kansas
  • Mitch Harper: BYU

BYU got the big win last week. They earned it. It was an emotionally charged game. The hangover effect of that game is very real. How much of an impact will that have on BYU? We’ll see. If you’re BYU, there’s certainly room for a loss here, given the context of last week’s game. I think BYU is playing with house money in this one and winning or losing will be fine in the end. Kansas has been competitive in most games this season and I think we can benefit from a Cougars team that wins the rivalry. -Bartel

This is a risky game. It’s the first time this season that I’m unsure whether I should choose BYU or not. Take a look at the previous weeks above. I’ve picked BYU every week this season. I’ll do it again, but I expect this game to be close. Close games are a good thing for BYU because they know how to get wins. Kansas, on the other hand, fails to pull out a win with a game still on the line. Look for BYU’s special teams unit to pull off more heroics in this game. -Harper
