Saints fire head coach Dennis Allen after loss to Panthers, 2-7 start to season

The New Orleans Saints have fired head coach Dennis Allen after a 2-7 start to his third season in the role, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported Monday, according to sources.

Saints assistant head coach and special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi is expected to become New Orleans’ interim coach, Rapoport added.

Allen’s firing came a day after New Orleans lost 23–22 to the Carolina Panthers, the Saints’ seventh straight loss.

In three seasons as head coach of the Saints, Allen compiled an 18-25 record with no playoff appearances.

He was the Saints’ defensive coordinator under Sean Payton from 2015 to 2021 and had spent 10 years with the organization.

Around the NFL will have more on this story soon.
