‘Wheel Of Fortune’ fans are divided over Ryan Seacrest’s pronunciation pivot

The honeymoon appears to be over for Ryan Seacrest as his ‘Wheel of Fortune’ hosting gig has hit a rough patch, leading to ‘Wheel’ fans feuding with each other.

On one side you have Pat Sajak loyalists who believe Seacrest is ruining the game show by turning away from the Sajak era, including accepting mispronunciations of words.

Again, remember what happened over a decade ago when a contestant answered a puzzle with “Seven swans uh swimmin'” and how Sajak responded. He did not allow the answer.

On the other hand, there are Seacrest fans who believe it’s time to loosen Sajak’s grip on the show that ran from 1981-2024. Accepting mispronounced words seems fine to Seacrest supporters

Which side do you fall on? Email: [email protected]

– Mike M. in Biloxi, Mississippi emails:

It’s already time to get rid of “Whine C-Quest” and bring in Maggie Sajak as host of Wheel of Fortune.

Whine C-Quest is such a Drama Queen 👸 🙄

I’ve started watching the local news instead of Wheel now that Whine C-Quest is here.

– Lynn O. seems angry at this headline: “Wheel Of Fortune Fans Notice A Disturbing Trend With ‘Moron’ Ryan Seacrest”

Try looking up the meaning of a word before labeling people. Nothing is more annoying than a stupid headline.

Kinsey:

I didn’t label Seacrest as an idiot. That’s what ‘Wheel’ watchers call him.

– PCA in StP, Minnesota writes:

  1. Ryan Seacrest is not Pat Sajak (who was an annoying neurotic control freak, especially in the last decade of his career)
  2. Seacrest (rightly) assesses knowledge and intent when interpreting participants’ answers and statements.

Ryan Seacrest is one of the hardest working, most respected and versatile hosts in the entertainment industry over the past 25 years. He’s a much better entertainer and host who runs these games the way Wheel of Fortune was intended to be – which is more light-hearted and fun instead of a more rigorous test of wits with stricter demarcations like Jeopardy.

– Michelle weighs in:

Pronunciation is important. I believe it should matter. Seacrest must notice a mispronunciation.

– Sharon K. doesn’t want the ‘Wheel’ to become a free for all:

Saying Seacrest isn’t Sajak is such an insult to Sajak! Seacrest has tried to cast himself as a “pretty boy” in the role. He looks so nice and is definitely not a boy. As a mature adult, he must use the judgment of a mature adult. The rules say correct pronunciation and that is what it should be. If you allow “sounds like” to be “good enough”, then it’s a free for all.

I rarely watch anymore since Seacrest took over. It’s just not worth that much of my time. Poor Vanna.

Do “Wheel of Fortune” fans have a problem with contestants mispronouncing names of cities like Lubbock, Texas?

– Dorton appears to be pro-Seacrest:

People need to get over themselves. I’m sure there are many cities that would pronounce them wrong. Seacrest is now the host, so get over it or watch something else.

What are the ratings for ‘Wheel of Fortune’ with Ryan Seacrest?

The first month of Seacrest’s ‘Wheel’ run couldn’t have gone better for the show. Viewers rose 12% annually and the 25-54 demo rose 3%. The show even jumped on Jeopardy! as the most watched entertainment show.

9.6 million viewers watched Seacrest’s debut.

“The numbers for this show are immense and the popularity is still high. We still have a brand that people really identify with. If we can get it in front of people who might not have linear TV and keep that viewership grow, There’s a lot of exciting changes happening,” executive producer Bellamie Blackstone told Deadline in October.
