Rybnik 2050, a subsidiary of the Polish energy group PGE, has signed an agreement with GAZ-SYSTEM to connect the gas-steam unit in Rybnik to the gas transmission network. The project includes the construction of a connecting gas pipeline and a petrol station. Gas deliveries are expected to start in the second quarter of 2026.

Foundation work is currently underway for the main technological structures, including the engine room for the gas and steam turbine set, the recovery boiler and associated utilities such as the electricity building, the water treatment plant and transformer stations. Progress includes the erection of the steel framework for the gas turbine building and the completion of a 54-metre communications tower. Preparations for the construction of the cooling water system are also progressing.

The project is progressing on schedule with several milestones completed ahead of schedule. The gas-steam unit is expected to be operational in December 2026.

In the meantime, GAZ-SYSTEM signed an agreement with the Kraków Institute of Oil and Gas – National Research Institute to co-finance the project Construction of the gas pipeline Kędzierzyn-Koźle – Racibórz – Rybnik. The total project cost is estimated at 595.5 million Polish zloty (approximately 137.4 million euros), with co-financing of 199.2 million Polish zloty (approximately 45.9 million euros), accounting for more than 30 percent of the investment.

“Securing European funds for GAZ-SYSTEM’s investments underlines their crucial role in the transformation of Poland’s energy system,” said Sławomir Hinc, President of GAZ-SYSTEM. “The Kędzierzyn-Koźle – Racibórz – Rybnik gas pipeline is a key project for gas transport in the Opole and Silesian Voivodeships. It will also facilitate gas supply to the gas-steam unit under construction in Rybnik.”
