“How To Train Your Dragon” officially has its first trailer, and here are the best side-by-sides between the live-action and the animated film

Since its release in 2010 How to train your dragon tops my list of my favorite movies of all time. From the animation, the voice performances, and the breathtaking score, it’s a perfect movie for me.

How to train your dragon tells the story of Hiccup, a teenager who wants to become a dragon slayer like the other Vikings in his village. However, when he encounters a rare Night Fury dragon, everything changes if he can’t kill it. Soon, Hiccup and this dragon, Toothless, form an irreplaceable bond that changes everything.

The film was nominated for Best Animated Feature and Best Original Score for John Powell at the 2011 Academy Awards. The film also spawned two sequels, a TV series and more.

And now, the world of How to train your dragon is expanding even further. In 2023, it was announced that a live-action version of this beloved film was in the works, and now we have our first official look.

Mason Thames, who is known for his leading role The black phone And For all humanityplays Hiccup. Jay Baruchel previously voiced the character in the animated trilogy.

The trailer for the new film focuses on Mason as Hiccup, as we see some incredible moments from the animated film play out.

For example, we get the iconic moment when Toothless trusts Hiccup for the first time and lets him pet him. I’m just dying of cuteness.

Also, this side-by-side of live-action Toothless and animated Toothless has honestly calmed all my reservations about the live-action movie because it looks perfect.

We also get our first look at Berk, the mythical Viking village where Hiccup and his friends and family live.

Here is Stoick, aka Hiccup’s father, played by Gerard Butler in the live-action film versus his character design in the animated film, where Butler also voiced the character.

We get our first look at the majestic dragons flying out of the cave.

Although not shown in the trailer, The last of us star Nico Parker will play Astrid. America Ferrera mainly played the role in the animated films.

And all I know is that “Test Drive” in the live-action remake is better at bringing me to tears as it is in the animated version. It’s honestly my only request.
