How many days until Christmas? You can watch the Christmas countdown here

Even though it’s not even Thanksgiving yet, some may already be putting up their sparkling Christmas tree, climbing onto the roof and creating a festive light display, or listening to Christmas classics.

Although there is no hard and fast rule for decorating for Christmas, almost half of Christmas decorations are put up between Thanksgiving and the end of November. About 16% wait until early December and only 5% start decorating in mid-December or later, according to a survey by the website YouGov.

Christmas arrived early at Elisa and Matthew Hernandez's home. Their Christmas decorations were put up at their Central El Paso home on September 12, which can be seen on Wednesday, November 11, 2020.

The English name “Christmas” is derived from “Christ’s Day Mass,” according to Britannica, as the holiday celebrates the birth of Christ. See more answers to frequently asked questions about Christmas.

Why is Christmas celebrated on December 25?

According to UCatholic, one of the earliest references to December 25 as the date of Jesus’ birth comes from St. Hippolytus of Rome in his Commentary on Danielwritten around 205 AD – about two centuries after the birth of Christ.

Although this early mention predates the formal adoption of December 25 by the Roman Church in the 4th century, it was not until the religion became more integrated into the Roman Empire – especially after Emperor Constantine’s Edict of Milan in 313 AD – that date was widely observed.
