Flood warning issued for Norfolk Broads

People living on the Norfolk Broads are advised to expect flooding as a warning has been issued.

The warning applies to the River Thurne, including Hickling Broad, for at least the next 24 hours.

The forecast high tides at Great Yarmouth will prevent the Broads river system from draining out to sea and result in higher than normal water levels.

Areas most at risk are Ludham, Repps, Bastwick, Potter Heigham, New Bridge and Hickling Heath.

The Environment Agency has said flooding of homes and businesses is likely and has advised locals to “be ready to take action”.

Three other flood warnings issued earlier this week remain in force.

The warnings cover much of the Broads, with the places most at risk being roads and properties near the Yare, the Waveney and the Bure, Ant and Thurne.

An Environment Agency spokesperson said: “Take care on waterside roads and footpaths and do not put yourself at unnecessary risk.”
