Reddit and Venmo disabled: Users are reporting outages on multiple social media sites

Users have reported outages on multiple social media sites, including Reddit, Bluesky and Venmo.

On the Reddit status website, the company indicates that an “unresolved incident” is taking place on November 20. The company later acknowledged the issue and responded to an X user who said, “we’re working on it.”

Nearly 50,000 Reddit users reported having an issue with the site, with site visitors seeing the message: “Upstream connect error or disconnect/reset before headers. Reset reason: connection error.”

The outage on Reddit was quite widespread, with reports from the monitoring site Down Detector coming in from US cities including Detroit, New York, Tampa, San Francisco, Seattle and others.

According to Reddit, the issue affected reddit.com on desktop web, mobile web, native mobile apps, comment handling, and spam handling.

Elsewhere, Bluesky – which has recently seen a rise in users as it became a competitor to X – also declined, with around 2,200 users reporting issues. The site listed “internal servers” as the cause of the problems.

The platform’s membership has reportedly increased by around 500 percent since US election day on November 5.

About 5,000 users of the payment and money exchange app Venmo also reported problems.

The cause of the widespread outages, which began around 3:00 PM ET on Wednesday, is currently unknown.
