Chris Stapleton forgot to thank a key collaborator as he picked up his first win of the night at the 2024 Country Music Association Awards.

On Wednesday, November 20, the 46-year-old singer attended the 58th annual country music awards show in Nashville, where he was nominated for a total of five awards. Early in the evening he took home the award for single of the year for his song ‘White Horse’, which was produced by his wife Morgane Stapleton.

The country star forgot to give her a shout-out during his acceptance speech, but got the chance to make up for it when he secured his second win of the night for song of the year for the same tune.

“I’m really surprised. Thank you so much for this,” Stapleton said in his second acceptance speech of the evening, according to Taste of Country. “I owe my wife an apology. That last award was hers too.”

Stapleton explained that everything “happened so quickly,” but noted, “I really owe a lot to her, so I thank her for her support.”

The ten-time Grammy winner and Morgane – also a singer-songwriter and bandmate of Stapleton – have been married since 2007.

This year’s “Think I’m in Love with You” earned five nominations, including entertainer of the year, single of the year, album of the year, song of the year and male singer of the year.

He opened the 2024 ceremony with an energetic performance of “California Sober” with singer Post Malone. The two took the stage wearing cowboy hats and guitars as they performed the song, which was featured on Malone’s country album. F-1 trillion.

Stapleton gave Morgane a nice mention at last year’s ceremony when he won Male Vocalist of the Year, saying in his acceptance speech: “I’d like to thank my wife, Morgane. I’m not doing any of this without her. Certainly not.” get one of these (awards) without her.”

The 58th Annual CMA Awards will air live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena on ABC on Wednesday, November 20 from 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM. The show will stream on Hulu the next day.
