Jelly Roll and Keith Urban bring the heat with a performance of ‘Liar’ at the 2024 CMA Awards

Temperatures soared at the 2024 CMA Awards as Jelly Roll took the stage for his second performance of the night, joining Keith Urban for a rousing performance of “Liar.”

Backed by bursts of flames and rhythmic balls of sparks, the two musicians brought the heat, with the “Son of a Sinner” singer passionately belting out his lyrics while the Australian-American country star shredded next to him on guitar. “You’re nothing but a liar. Yeah, I walk straight out of the fire,” Jelly sang, while his wife – podcaster Bunnie XO – listened to the lyrics in the audience. “Yeah, you tryna keep me down/Try to put me underground/But I’m only going higher.”

Bowing at No. 74 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 18 on the Hot Country Songs chart, “Liar” appears on Jelly’s album topping the Billboard 200. Beautifully broken. The Tennessee native debuted the song at the ACM Awards earlier in May.

Jelly was up for numerous awards at the 2024 CMA Awards, including Entertainer of the Year, which an absent Morgan Wallen won at the very end of the evening. With 2023’s he also had a chance to win album of the year Whitsitt Chapel and Male Vocalist of the Year, but the awards went to Cody Johnson’s Learn and Chris Stapleton, respectively.

Earlier that evening, the “Need a Favor” musician took the stage for the first time and performed a religious rendition of his Brooks & Dunn collaboration “Believe.” The three-hour show was hosted by Peyton Manning, Luke Bryan and Lainey Wilson and took place at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
