Liverpool player ratings vs Nottingham Forest: Mohamed Salah drops stinker as Arne Slot substitutions lead to first loss for the Reds

The Egypt international was appalling as Callum Hudson-Odoi’s second-half goal condemned the Merseysiders to a first defeat of the campaign

Liverpool had not lost at home to Nottingham Forest since 1969, but they did lose to Nuno Espirito Santo’s side. Santo played a remarkably strong defence, while Arne Slot suffered his first league defeat as manager.

Luis Diaz had the first big chance, when he chased a lost cause, won the ball high up the pitch and hit the post with a low effort. Alexis Mac Allister also tested Matz Sels twice in the first half and his header almost led to a terrible foul, when the keeper claimed the ball, then dropped it and almost backheeled it into his own net.

Liverpool dominated the area and possession in the second half but struggled to get past Forest. Slot made a bizarre triple substitution, taking off his best player Mac Allister and leaving the increasingly ineffective Mohamed Salah on the pitch.

And in the 72nd minute they were punished when Callum Hudson-Odoi cut inside from the left flank and curled a superb shot in off the post to give the visitors a 1-0 win.
