Here are three teams – including Cowboys – that could sign Daniel Jones following the Giants release

Daniel Jones needs a new team.

The Giants announced a mutual release of their six-year quarterback on Friday after benching him for Tommy DeVito during a 2-8 start.

According to NFL Network, Jones is on waivers until Monday, so a team that claims him would likely wait until 4:00 PM ET that day to avoid having to be on the hook for six-game checks ($11.83 million).

And look, it’s not like Jones will be an in-demand quarterback. Aside from his $23 million injury bond, Jones’ inconsistent play this season — 2,070 passing yards with a brutal 8-7 touchdown-interception ratio — was the reason for the benching and eventual release.

But teams are always looking for quarterbacks, especially the one who won a playoff game less than two years ago.

So let’s take a look at three teams that could target Jones.

Dallas Cowboys

This would be Jerry Jones’ ultimate move. Not only do the Cowboys have a dire need at quarterback with Dak Prescott out for the season, they also face the Giants next week on Thanksgiving. A highly motivated Jones facing the team that bungled his release would be the perfect revenge story. And with a weapon like CeeDee Lamb at his disposal, perhaps Jones could at least spark a run for the 3-7 Cowboys.

San Francisco 49ers

Jones joining the Niners would be a win-win for both parties. For starters, Brock Purdy’s shoulder is injured (he underwent an MRI on Thursday), so if it’s serious enough, Jones could actually compete for a job on a potential playoff team. And even if he doesn’t play, he would have a chance to learn under Kyle Shanahan — a lauded quarterback whisperer who revived Sam Darnold’s career. The Niners are still reeling from their 2023 NFC Championship loss — when they had to play Josh Johnson due to Purdy’s injury — so they always like to keep their QB room stacked just in case.

Tennessee titans

Jones made it clear this week that he wants to play again this year. He sounded like he was willing to waive his injury guarantee just to stay with the Giants this season. So while it wouldn’t be ideal to jump from one 2-8 team to another, Jones would certainly do it. And with Will Levis and Mason Rudolph being Tennessee’s current options, coach Brian Callahan would welcome Jones with open arms.
