Lewis Hamilton firmly believes he ‘should have been on pole’ in Las Vegas after Q3 dramas left him in 10th

Asked to discuss his session, and how it all went down, Hamilton said: “Yes, it didn’t work when it mattered. I tried, but it didn’t work.

“I should have been on pole. At least I have speed, which is a good result over the weekend and that’s the positive we can take from that.”

When asked if that positive gives him confidence for the race, he replied: “Not really. I think the race is a bit over. It is clear that there is no victory… A great performance by George.”

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff echoed Hamilton’s feelings about the missed opportunity, but sees no reason why the Brit cannot work his way to the podium on Saturday evening.
