Panthers’ Ja’Tavion Sanders had to be taken off the field after suffering a terrifying head injury

Carolina Panthers rookie tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders suffered a scary head injury in a home game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

When he received a pass from quarterback Bryce Young shortly before halftime, Sanders got caught in traffic with Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie and linebacker Drue Tranquill, with the 21-year-old rookie spinning around during the collision and landing directly on his head.

McDuffie went low to tackle the 6-foot-1, 250-pound Sanders, and Tranquill helped take him down as well.

Sanders was then carted off the field as players from both teams looked on.

The fourth-round pick out of Texas also raised his arms to the Bank of America Stadium crowd, which applauded him as he left the field.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Sunday that Sanders was taken to a Charlotte-area hospital “for further evaluation” after the injury.

Sanders had recorded 26 catches, 253 yards and a touchdown in Sunday’s game against the reigning champion Chiefs.
