Eagles hero and ex-Michigan star tears triceps

play

Brandon Graham may have just played his last game with the Philadelphia Eagles and in his NFL career.

The former Michigan defensive lineman and Detroit native dominated the Los Angeles Rams in the Eagles’ 37-20 victory at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on Sunday night, but then suffered an injury and a heartbreaking prognosis.

Graham, 36, told reporters in the locker room after the game that he has a torn triceps in his left arm, which happened late in the second half against the Rams. Due to the injury, his season ends after eleven games. He was initially shut down by the Eagles (9-2) due to an elbow injury.

Graham said in July that this would be his 15th and final NFL season, breaking Chuck Bednarik’s record for most seasons played with the club. He is the Eagles’ all-time leader in games played with 206.

The emotion was raw on his face as he broke the news to reporters in the locker room after a game in which he made life miserable for the Rams offense and quarterback Matthew Stafford, recording one sack, two tackles for loss and three quarterback hits recorded.

“I had fun out there,” Graham, an Eagles captain, told reporters Sunday night. “And we’re still going to have fun. But I’m gone for a year.

“If I had to go out there like that … I gave it everything on the field,” Graham added after the team’s seventh straight win left the team one game behind the Detroit Lions in the NFC playoff race for the No. 1 seed. .

Graham finishes his 2024 season with 20 total tackles and 3½ sacks.

He is third on the Eagles’ all-time sack list (76½) and is tied with linebacker Seth Joyner for second in team history with 21 forced fumbles.

A beloved, gregarious figure at 6-foot-4 and 265 pounds, Graham played at Detroit Crockett and then for the Wolverines from 2006-09. He was the Eagles’ No. 13 overall pick in the 2010 draft. He is a one-time Pro Bowl selection.

“BG” made perhaps the greatest play in Eagles history late in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl 52 in February 2018, sacking Tom Brady to help the Eagles prevail for their first-ever Super Bowl victory.

“All I know is that they are not done with me yet,” he told reporters on Sunday evening. “I’m going to make sure I go out there and be the best leader I can be and continue to bring the energy.”
