Brett Favre reveals who he thinks should be the next Dallas Cowboys coach

Legendary NFL quarterback Brett Favre believes Deion Sanders should be one of the top contenders to become the next coach of the Dallas Cowboys if Mike McCarthy is fired.

McCarthy’s position in Texas is extremely vulnerable after a dismal season that saw them sit at 4-7 and almost certainly out of the playoffs.

Earlier this week, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones admitted he could still offer McCarthy a new contract.

But last season’s play-off failure and their dismal home form this season have led many to expect he will not be offered a new contract.

Sanders, who has completely transformed the Colorado Buffaloes, is a leading contender for a potential vacancy in Dallas given his history with the franchise.

The 57-year-old won a Super Bowl with the Cowboys in 1996 and played five seasons in Dallas.

Favre thinks Sanders has the “character” to revive the Cowboys after a dismal season in Dallas

Speaking to TMZ, Favre believes Sanders has the “character” to revive the Cowboys.

He said: “If he goes in the direction where he’s going to fire Mike McCarthy, which I have no idea what direction he’s leaning in, Deion might have a chance to step in there.

‘I think he’s definitely worth a shot. I think the world is his.

‘I know him personally. So I know what kind of character he has.”

The Cowboys and New York Giants take the stage for a Thanksgiving battle of backup quarterbacks, as the out-of-touch NFC East rivals have combined for six wins and 16 losses in 2024.

Cooper Rush helped the Cowboys get back into the win column in Washington before the three-day preparation to play holiday host for the Giants, who have shuffled their plans because of another potential quarterback change.

The play-offs are an afterthought at this point. Dallas is tied for fourth in the NFC and the Giants are last with the final third of the season ahead.

Beating the Commanders 34-26 on Sunday eased the pressure on the Cowboys, if only briefly, and they will now look to win at home for the first time in six tries.

The Cowboys are aiming for a season win over the Giants for the fourth season in a row.

In addition to their 0-5 home record, the Cowboys are 2-1 in the NFC East but have been outscored by 98 points this season.

Dallas was 8-0 at home in the 2023 regular season and then began a streak of six straight losses — including the wild-card blowout to the Packers — by an average of 22.3 points.
