Hailee Steinfeld and Josh Allen are engaged and ‘up to their ears’

Hailee Steinfeld and Josh Allen are engaged!

On Friday, November 29, the Spider-Man: About the Spider-Verse star, 27, and the Buffalo Bills quarterback, 28, have announced they will tie the knot after getting engaged a week ago.

They both shared a romantic photo on Instagram of Allen on one knee in front of Steinfeld, both surrounded by an arch of pink and red roses by the water. The caption was just a simple date: November 22nd.

The comments quickly filled with well wishes from friends and fans alike.

“Congratulations brother!!!” actor Chad Michael Murray wrote.

“They were head over heels from the start,” a source close to the couple tells PEOPLE. “Their families are happy.”

Steinfeld and Allen were first linked in May 2023, shortly after rumors swirled that he had called it quits with then-girlfriend Brittany Williams. Steinfeld also spent time with Allen’s mother.

A source later confirmed their relationship with PEOPLE in May 2023.

In August 2023, Allen appeared on the Excuse me podcast in which he neither confirmed nor denied his relationship with Steinfeld, but was not opposed to the hosts calling her his girlfriend.

During the podcast, Allen was asked if he had seen the headlines about him “kissing his girlfriend.”

“The fact that anyone cares about that still amazes me,” Allen responded.

He added that some photographers had been pushy in their attempts to take pictures of the two, and recalled a specific instance in which he saw a photographer “on a boat” trying to take a photo of him and Steinfeld.

Allen said it was a “gross feeling” and created a feeling of “insecurity” for the new couple.

In October 2023, the couple made their first public appearance together during an NHL game against the New York Rangers at KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York.

Steinfeld and Allen were present at the game crashed into the stands in what appeared to be a suite while they watched the season opening game, which the Rangers won 5-1.
