๐ŸŒŽ Brazil shares points with Uruguay; Argentina returns to winning ways

South American World Cup qualifying continued on Tuesday evening with a full slate of matches before club football returns at the weekend.

This is what happened.

Brazil 1-1 Uruguay

Scorers: Gerson 62′; Valverde 55′

Brazil dropped points for the second game in a row after a draw against Uruguay at home.

The Dorival Jรบnior side saw their qualifying campaign marred by inconsistency, and that problem persisted on Tuesday night.

Although they saw most of the ball in the opening 45 minutes, they were punished after the break when Real Madrid’s Federico Valverde scored a stunner to put the visitors ahead, but Brazil responded well.

Just seven minutes later, Gerson smashed home a brilliant volley to regain parity and earn a point for the hosts.

Due to the shared points, Brazil misses a chance to leapfrog Uruguay in the standings, but instead remains fifth.

Argentina 1-0 Peru

Scorers: Martรญnez 55′

After the previous defeat, Argentina managed to win again with a narrow victory against Peru.

After a dull first 45 minutes, Argentina increased the pace in search of a lead, but Peru proved to be a tough nut to crack more than once.

Pedro Gallese and the Peruvian backline were stubborn all night and the frustration in La Bombonera was palpable.

They were eventually undone before the hour mark, however, when Lautaro Martรญnez produced a daring finish to fire home a Lionel Messi cross to put the hosts ahead.

The victory extends their lead at the top of the qualifying table to five points for the time being.
