Manchester City may be without some of their stars, but they continue to set records in the Premier League and were at it again this afternoon.

The Premier League champions spent much of the opening half hour in second place against Newcastle United, without Eddie Howe’s side really threatening Ederson in the City goal.

But that didn’t seem to bother them and with just their second shot on target the visitors took the lead when Joško Gvardiol cut inside before finding the far corner with a cultivated finish to put his side ahead.

In doing so, City scored against Newcastle for the 32nd consecutive Premier League match, more than any team against any other team in the 32-year history of the competition.

It could have been two before half-time, but İlkay Gündoğan botched his lines when he tried to chip Nick Pope, who was caught well outside his goal.
