3 takes on Christian Jones committing to Nebraska

Nebraska received a commit from Omaha Westside linebacker Christian Jones. Three takes on the decision of the 6-foot-3, 215-pounder:

NU showed proof of progress

The Huskers put their best foot forward in recruiting Jones, who took his time in the recruiting process and weighed other options, including Oklahoma.

What Jones wanted to see, in essence, was a team on the rise. Nebraska’s dominant performance against Colorado was the evidence Jones wanted to confirm that he was right to stay home.

Winning big games — in electric atmospheres — may be a team’s biggest boost to recruiting.

Jones is the first visitor from Saturday night to commit, but he may not be the last.

A big, fluid athlete with leadership skills

Jones had 55 tackles and nine tackles for loss last season for one of the top teams in Class A history. On a weaker team, he would have had far more tackles.

Jones can pack a punch when he hits, but he’ll be an excellent coverage linebacker, too.

He was quick enough to play in SEC defenses and bigger than many of NU’s recent linebacker signees. He’ll fit nicely in the physical Big Ten.

Another strong in-state haul for 2025

With Jones’ commits, all of the top prospects in the state have now made college decisions.

Of the eight guys Nebraska offered and hotly pursued, Rhule landed all but tight ends Chase Loftin (Florida State) and Reiman Zebert (Platteview).

Millard North’s Pierce Mooberry projects to linebacker but could be one of the nation’s better tight end prospects, as well.

The Huskers landed six of the state’s top eight in the 2024 class.
