A gruesome Bills-Jets roughing passer’s call on Aaron Rodgers left NFL fans disgusted

Passer rushing remains the most controversial decision in the NFL, and it reared its ugly head during the Buffalo Bills-New York Jets game on Monday night football.

Immediately after Bills defensive end AJ Epenesa cleanly sacked Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the officials still threw a rough passer call for an “unnecessary second act.”

Epenesa’s body landed on Rodgers during the takedown, triggering the flag and causing NFL fans around the world to shudder at what an absolutely terrible call it was.

There’s not much a defensive lineman like Epenesa can do to avoid such contact when they’re looking for a sack, if only because gravity will do its job anyway.

League rules protect the quarterback in this situation if the defender’s full body lands on him, causing us a lot of headaches and frustration. It really feels like the Bills got a job here, even if the call is defensible due to the NFL’s overwrought rules.

Of course, the reactions to this maddening flag were not pretty.
