A magnitude 5.0 earthquake hits the Oregon coast

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck off the Oregon coast Thursday at 4:58 p.m

The quake struck in the Pacific Ocean, about 75 miles (120 kilometers) from Coos Bay, the United States Geological Survey said.

So far, 25 people have responded to the agency’s online form asking if they felt the earthquake. No injuries have been reported.

Earthquakes are common off the Oregon coast, although this last one is slightly larger than most.

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake is expected to cause some damage if it occurs on or near land rather than in the open sea.

Earlier this week there was a 2.4 magnitude earthquake about 56 miles off the coast of Depoe Bay, a 2.3 magnitude earthquake 14 miles off the coast of Port Orford, and a magnitude 3.4 earthquake about 125 miles off the coast of Bandon.
