A tale of two franchises: Broncos win over Raiders says a lot

The Raiders 8-game winning streak against Denver came to an end on Sunday. The streak that predated the pandemic, which took place on December 29, 2019, was an annoying albatross around the Broncos’ neck. While never a threat to actually do anything in the NFL, the Raiders’ recent success against Denver was more of an annoyance than anything. Have you met their fans?

The Broncos wore their classic throwback D uniforms for the first time in a while and absolutely strangled the Raiders. Las Vegas quarterback Gardner Minshew did his best to add to the legend of Patrick Surtain II by throwing him this gem:

In the third quarter, Aiden O’Connell took his turn under center, but there was no spark, not the infusion of inspired football at the quarterback position the Raiders had hoped for.

If you’re a Raiders fan, there isn’t much to be excited about. Sure, tight end Brock Bowers is a nice addition, but with all the holes in every phase of the game, he’s nothing more than a shiny object on a sinking ship. Without a real quarterback, drama swirling around Davante Adams and Maxx Crosby constantly being asked about it, things could be better in Vegas.

In Denver, for the first time in a long time, there is no doubt who the leader of the Broncos offense is in Bo Nix. While Broncos Country is in fits and starts in its NFL legs, he’s energized by what the future holds. There is no free agent drama. Patrick Surtain answers questions about his excellent play on the field and doesn’t have to deal with contract mishegas that have nothing to do with him.

The Broncos are restoring some of the mystique that has been missing for almost a decade. The Raiders continue to spin the toilet as they have since their last Super Bowl victory in the 1983 season. The Denver Broncos are being reborn for the umpteenth time since then and the Raiders are… consistently terrible.

It feels great to finally beat Las Vegas. Order has been restored in the AFC West. Now that Denver is over the hump, it’s time to raise the bar beyond just beating the hapless Raiders. What’s next for these Broncos?
