Aaron Rodgers-Damar Hamlin jersey swap: Jets QBs pen heartfelt message to Bills safety in postgame exchange

The Jets and Bills have some history with each other, and some bad blood spilled over Monday night’s hard-fought game in the form of a few skirmishes. However, between two of the biggest names on the field, it was all love.

Jets QB Aaron Rodgers and Bills safety Damar Hamlin swapped jerseys after Buffalo’s 23-20 victory, bringing together a future Hall of Famer with four MVPs and a player whose brush with death made international headlines less than two years ago.

The moments immediately following the end of the game couldn’t have been all that enjoyable for Rodgers, whose final pass was intercepted as Mike Williams fell, but the Jets QB left a heartfelt message for Hamlin on New York’s throwback jersey.

Here’s a look at what Rodgers said to Hamlin after “Monday Night Football.”

Aaron Rodgers-Damar Hamlin jersey swap

Hamlin showed off his newly acquired Rodgers jersey after the Bills’ win on Monday, and it came with a special message.

“You are an inspiration to me and millions! Much love, my brother!” Rodgers wrote on the shirt, shouting out Hamlin’s remarkable journey from cardiac arrest back to the football field.

Hamlin told reporters he felt like “a kid at Christmas” when he received Rodgers’ jersey.

Hamlin was only 7 when Rodgers entered the NFL, meaning the four-time MVP is someone he almost certainly grew up admiring. That the two met on the field in 2024 is a testament to Rodgers’ longevity, but also to Hamlin’s perseverance.

Hamlin almost lost his life on an NFL field in January 2023. Once he was resuscitated from cardiac arrest, he still had to take steps to ensure he could live a normal life. Not only did he make those steps, but he also managed to get back on the field by the start of the 2023 season.

That wasn’t the end of Hamlin’s journey back, as he earned a starting job this season and has started each of the Bills’ first six games. The 26-year-old safety recorded his first career interception during a Week 3 win over the Jaguars.

Hamlin and the Bills are riding high at 4-2 as they try to put a penalty-laden game behind them, and he now has a friend in Rodgers. The two meet again in Week 17 when Buffalo hosts the Jets.
