Aaron Rodgers delivers Jets Hail Mary with a 52-yard Allen Lazard TD heave

The Hail Mary to the King struck again Monday night at the Meadowlands.

Aaron Rodgers, who has spent much of his 20-year career perfecting the Hail Mary, delivered his first goal as the Jets’ quarterback late in the first half against the Bills.

The Jets had the ball at their own 48-yard line with eight seconds left in the half and trailed the Bills 20-10, 13 seconds after Buffalo scored a touchdown.

After dancing in the pocket for a few seconds, Rodgers let the ball fly into the north end zone of MetLife Stadium and Allen Lazard, Rodgers’ former receiver in Green Bay, outwitted five Buffalo defenders and came down with the ball in the middle of a pile of bodies.

The ball was knocked out of his hands by one of the Bills defensive players, causing the fans packing the stadium to freeze for a moment, thinking it was incomplete.

But Lazard had secured the ball and landed on the ground, only to have the ball knocked out of his hands, and the call was “touchdown” on the 52-yard completion.

Three players surrounded Lazard as he made his jump: Buffalo cornerbacks Taron Johnson and Christian Benford and safety Taylor Rapp.

Lazard beat them all with the ball.

It was Rodgers’ fourth career Hail Mary and it gave the Jets new life in the locker room at halftime, trailing just 20-17.
