Aaron Rodgers praised by Jets HC Saleh: ‘His mind is still functioning at a high level’ | News, scores, highlights, stats and rumors

Aaron Rodgers showed on Thursday night what he is still capable of.

The New York Jets quarterback went 27-of-35 for 281 yards and two touchdowns in his team’s 24-3 win over the New England Patriots. He also added 18 yards on three carries on the ground game.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh reflected on his quarterback’s performance after the game, acknowledging that Rodgers’ mental abilities have remained at an elite level.

“He showed the mobility that we saw in training camp,” Saleh told reporters. “He may not be what he was, but he still has a lot in his legs and his arm is still 30 and his mind is still functioning at a high level. He was definitely impressive today.”

Rodgers also reflected on his physical state after the game, saying he felt like the 2019 version of himself.

“This was kind of a first step into playing the way I know I can play,” Rodgers said, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini. “I felt like I was my old self from five years ago.”

The two touchdown passes were his first at MetLife Stadium, coming after his 2023 season with the franchise ended after just four snaps in the opener when he suffered a torn Achilles tendon.

His return to the field in 2024 came in a Jets Week 1 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, but he has since led the team to two straight victories. He now has 624 passing yards with five touchdowns and just one interception on the season.

He has brought stability to a position the franchise hasn’t seen in a long time, which has been a major contributor to the team’s 13-year playoff drought, but early results in 2024 suggest that could be broken soon.
