After the ‘exhaustion report’, Trump cancels another media appearance

If it seems like Donald Trump has canceled a surprising number of events, interviews, and appearances lately, that’s not your imagination. As Politico reported, the list continues to grow.

Donald Trump was scheduled to appear in a virtual town hall with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. today at 2 p.m. and former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii), but it was canceled, with organizers citing “changes to Trump’s schedule.” … The Make America Healthy Again town hall, which organizers planned to stream live on X, was intended to highlight Kennedy’s health agenda and contributions to the Trump campaign. (The former independent candidate dropped his bid in August and endorsed Trump.)

Frankly, it would be an exaggeration to suggest that the former Republican president is somehow hiding. He’s not. The GOP nominee continues to make a variety of public appearances, usually in settings where he doesn’t have to worry about hostile questions.

But he’s also made a surprising number of cancellations:

  • Trump agreed to appear on CBS’ “60 Minutes” before canceling.
  • He agreed to appear on CNBC before canceling.
  • He reportedly planned to do an interview with the NBC affiliate in Philadelphia before canceling.
  • He was reportedly in discussions with The Shade Room about a sit-down interview for weeks before backing out.
  • His campaign stated that he would debate Kamala Harris more than once, but shortly afterwards he canceled those plans as well.

It’s also worth noting that Trump was scheduled to participate in an event in Georgia with the National Rifle Association, but this too was canceled. The right-wing group explained that the change was due to “changes in campaign planning.”

As for possible explanations for these many cancellations, Politico reported that Trump’s team told one outlet that the candidate’s schedule was so busy that it was leading to “exhaustion.”

To make matters worse, the 78-year-old Republican appeared to fall asleep — more than once — during some recent events.

This has not gone unnoticed by the rival campaign.

“Being president of the United States is probably one of the hardest jobs in the world,” Harris told reporters late last week after referencing the Politico report. “And so we really have to ask ourselves if he’s exhausted while he’s on the campaign trail, is he qualified to do the job?”

Presumably Trump could resist such questions by releasing his medical records, but so far he has refused for reasons he has not explained.
