Aidan Warner is the new Florida football QB against Georgia following DJ Lagway’s injury

The Gators have a new quarterback against Georgia after DJ Lagway’s injury. His name is Aidan Warner. Here’s what you need to know about Warner, the redshirt freshman walk-on.

Florida football has a new man behind center.

Aidan Warner came into action for the Gators in the second quarter for the injured DJ Lagway vs. Georgia.

Here’s what you need to know about Warner:

Florida quarterback Aidan Warner is originally from the Orlando area

Warner is the pride of Winter Park High School.

He was named All-State for track and field and academics at Winter Park, where he threw for 1,659 yards, 24 touchdowns and six interceptions. He won three district championships as a QB for the Wildcats, going 10-2 and advancing to the Class 4M-Region 1 semifinals in 2022 – his senior season.

Warner began his college career at Yale

Warner played for the Bulldogs his freshman year in New Haven.

He chose Yale over offers from UConn, Coastal Carolina, FAU and others. 247 Sports rated him a 3-star QB. He was the 133rd-ranked QB in the class of 2023 and the 312th-ranked recruit in Florida.

He redshirted the 2023 season and saw no action before deciding to move to Florida.

He walked onto the Florida football team

Warner joined the Gators this spring as a walk-on and is steadily climbing the depth charts.

He did not play in the spring game, but started the season as the third-string QB behind Graham Mertz and Lagway.

This season he played two games

Warner played in both games that Lagway started.

Against Samford, he scored on a nine-yard touchdown rush and completed one pass for 10 yards.

He came in late vs. Kentucky and connected on its only attempt, a 20-yarder.

Florida leads Georgia 10-6 just before halftime.

Billy Napier gives Warner words of praise

The Florida head coach was asked about Warner during halftime in his interview with ESPN’s Holly Rowe.

Napier praised Warner and said he deserved the backup quarterback.

β€œHe’s had some good practices and he’s earned them,” Napier said.

Warner hit a 2-4 for eight yards to lead Florida on a field goal just before halftime.

Trey Smack’s 53 yard FG gave the Gators a 13-6 lead over Georgia at halftime.
