Amanda Serrano shows off a gruesome cut she suffered from numerous headbutts in Katie Taylor’s rematch

Amanda Serrano will need stitches, and probably a good plastic surgeon, after leaving the ring on Friday night with a gaping wound over her right eyebrow following an epic war with Katie Taylor.

As much as the cut hurts, losing a controversial decision by Taylor in their rematch certainly hurts Serrano even more. Despite taking more punches throughout the fight, Serrano ultimately fell to Taylor for a second time after believing she also deserved the nod during their first meeting two years ago.

Serrano then posted a photo showing a close-up of the cut on her eyebrow.

During their second encounter, Serrano came out guns blazing, but she suffered her first real damage after a clash of heads caused the cut above her right eye to open. Replays showed it was Taylor’s head that caused the damage, rather than a punch, with the referee informing the judges who scored the fight.

As the action continued, Taylor was warned several times for repeated headbutts, with the referee eventually deducting a point late in the fight due to the numerous fouls.

While taking the loss given her feelings about the decision, Serrano stated afterwards that she believed Taylor’s actions were intentional, as she does the same thing in all her fights.

“I think 100 percent (it was on purpose),” Serrano said. “Because she does it in every fight.”

The gruesome cut certainly affected Serrano in the fight, as she continued to favor that side of her face during many of the biggest exchanges.

It was an unfortunate turn of events for Serrano, especially considering how many people watched the fight and said she deserved the win. Despite the rivalry now being 0-2, it seemed like pretty much everyone – including Taylor – was open to a trilogy, so perhaps Serrano will get a chance to dial it back and try to make things right next time.
