Amazon is firing a new salvo in its battle with Chinese online retailers Temu and Shein, which are offering deep discounts to customers who don’t mind longer delivery times. The retail giant launched Amazon Haula service available on the store’s app and mobile website that promises “ultra-low prices” — all under $20 — on clothing, home goods and electronics.

In its announcement, Amazon is touting iPhone 16 cases for $1.79, jewelry for $3 and holiday table runners, also for $3. Free shipping applies to orders over $25, but unlike the fast With Amazon’s Prime service, these orders take a week to two to arrive. Shipping costs are $4 for orders under $25. Orders over $3 can be returned for free within 15 days of delivery, Amazon says.

Temu and Shein have surged in popularity in recent years, but customers often report long wait times for shipping and quality issues with items from those storefronts, especially knockoffs of technology and fashion products.

Amazon says it offers the same “A-to-Z” product guarantee on Haul merchandise as it does on its other storefronts.

The company described Haul as in beta, even though it will be available to all customers through the Amazon app “the next time they update their app.” It currently appears on the tabs at the top of the homepage, next to Holiday Deals and Groceries. Fire emojis and “crazy low” tags abound on the Haul store page.

“It’s just the beginning of this experience, and we will continue to listen to customers as we refine and expand it in the coming weeks and months,” Sharmesh Metha, vice president of global partner services sales at Amazon, said in the announcement .
