An Alabama man wins $1.3 million on a Florida lottery scratch-off ticket

A Baldwin County man walked out of a Florida supermarket this week $1.28 million richer.

Jeremy Smith, 49, of Lillian, purchased a $10 TRIPLE 777 scratch-off ticket at a CEFCO Convenience Store in Gulf Breeze, where a $2 million prize was up for grabs, according to a recent Florida Lottery release.

He opted to receive his winnings as a one-time payment of $1,280,000 on Tuesday at the lottery’s headquarters in Tallahassee. CEFCO also received a $4,000 bonus commission for the sale of the winning ticket.

According to the press release, the Florida Lottery is responsible for contributing more than $47 billion to improving education and sending more than 983,000 students to college through the Bright Futures Scholarship Program. The lottery reinvests 99 percent of its revenue into Florida’s economy through prize payouts, commissions to more than 13,600 lottery retailers and transfers to education.

Since 1988, Florida Lottery games have generated more than $95.7 billion in prizes and made more than 4,000 people millionaires, the release found.
